Call for workshops/tutorials

Call for Workshops/Tutorials

The IVA 2023 organizing committee solicits proposals for workshops to be held in conjunction with the main conference. The purpose of workshops is to enable participants from academia, industry, government, and others to present and discuss novel ideas on current and emerging topics relevant to intelligent virtual agents.

Workshops are scheduled for the first day of the conference: 19.09.2023.

IMPORTANT DATES

Workshop proposal submission date: 21.04.2023
Notification of acceptance: 05.05.2023

Submit workshop proposals to: workshopchairs@iva.acm.org

Each workshop should be organized under a well-defined theme that focuses on emerging research areas, challenges, opportunities, and applications. Organizers have free control on the format and style of the workshop (e.g., invited talks, regular papers or posters, panels, etc.)

We encourage organizers to avoid a mini-conference format, by:

  1. promoting the submission of position papers and extended abstracts rather than full papers,
  2. allowing plenty of time for discussions and debates,
  3. organizing workshop panels.

Workshops organizers are expected to 1) announce the workshop, 2) disseminate their call for papers, 3) maintain the workshop website, 4) gather submissions, 5) conduct the reviewing process, and 6) decide upon the final workshop program. In addition, they are required to prepare an informal set of workshop proceedings to be distributed with the registration materials at the main IVA conference (template provided by IVA). Finally, the workshop organizers should host the workshop papers online. Organizers may choose to form organizing or program committees to accomplish these tasks.

Workshop proposals should contain the following information:

  • Organizers:
    • Names, affiliations, and short bios of all the organizers, including the main contact organizer’s e-mail address
  • Overview:
    • Title, topic, motivation, target audience, and IVA relevance (4 paragraphs max)
  • Details:
    • Desired workshop length: full-day (~8 hours) or half-day (~4 hours)
    • Tentative descriptions of all workshop components (e.g., panels, discussion sessions, poster sessions, invited talks, etc.)
    • Tentative names of invited speakers, reviewers, and (optional) panelists
    • For previous (IVA or other) workshops: details on venue, attendance, and number of submissions/accepted papers
    • For new workshops: justification of expected attendees/submissions
    • Strategy on how to achieve tangible outcomes for this workshop
